The Shettles Method is a baby conception idea to help determine a baby’s gender. It was developed by Landrum B. Shettles in the 1960s.

Based on his theory, a couple could affect the chances of conceiving a baby boy or a baby girl. Proponents claim between 75 and 90 percent effectiveness, but some experts do not agree that the method really works.

Concept of The Shettles Method
According to the theory, male (Y) sperm swim faster than female (X) sperm. Male sperm are also more fragile than female (X) sperm. Further to that, acidic environments don’t favor Y sperm, therefore, in acidic environments; it is more likely to make conception of a girl.

There are 3 suggestions in The Shettles Method:

1. Timing of Intercourse

2. Sexual Position

To allow the Y-sperm to arrive the egg first (supposedly swims faster), there should be a deeper penetration, so as to avoid the acidic area and deposit the sperm at the least acidic area near the opening of the uterus.

Self Concept:

            Feminist dictionary (1985) refers that â??it is often used as a synonym of the sex i.e biological maleness or femaleness.  However, it is also used particularly by contemporary writers, to refer to the socially imposed dictionary of masculine and feminine role and character traits.

Methodology:

            The survey method was used to collect the data.  To study the self concept of students, the investigator constructed a tool which was constructed by the investigator.

 

 

Sample:

            Adolescent students belonging to Matriculation school and Government School in Palani constitute the population.   Care was taken during the distribution of tool to matriculation and Government school adolescent students in Dindigul area from the two schools, data is collected from 115 students by random sampling method.

 

Findings and Interpretations:

            Statistical Procedure â??tâ?? test is used to find out the difference in self concept among boys and girls in two different schools.

There is no difference between the students of the 2 schools in their self concept.
There is no difference between the boys and girls of Government school in their self concept.
Boys and girls of Matriculation school do not differ in their self concept.

Recommendations:

      In general, there is no significant difference between boys and girls of secondary

level students in two different schools.

      In order to develop their self concept among girls and boys encouragement,

incentives, rewards should be given to  who participate in the adventurous activities in the school.

      The investigation has first of all helped the investigator to gain more knowledge

regarding self concept of the students.  This will help an investigator to carry such a study on some other sample.  This will help the students to develop their personality as a whole to become worthy citizen of tomorrow.

When it comes to selecting a child’s gender at birth, the Ancient Chinese provides a detailed and pretty impressive Pregnancy Gender Selection Chart (or Chinese Gender Conception Calendar), which gives a systematic prediction on the gender of a baby based on two factors; (a) the age of conception of the mother, as well as (b) the month of conception.

This Pregnancy Gender Selection Chart is not to be confused with the better known Four Pillars Birth Chart (or Bazi) in the field of Feng Shui. The Four Pillars Reading is used for predicting the fortunes of a person based on his birth information, where else the Pregnancy Gender Selection Chart is meant for pre-determining the gender of a child at the conception and pregnancy stages.

This rather well-known Chart was discovered in the Ming’s Tomb and is apparently kept by the Imperial Family. However, there are in effect numerous similar gender selection guides circulating among the Chinese population, especially in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This Chart produced here is meant purely for leisure read.

There is no scientific basis on its prediction, although older generations of Chinese have proclaimed it to be highly accurate. Some feel that after all, with the largest population in the world, the Chinese got to know a thing or two about childbirths. In effect, with only 2 gender selections in the word (i.e. either boy or girl), no prediction mechanisms, either ancient or modern, will do far wrong if they do not deviate too far from the 50% benchmark.

Although this method of gender selection is safe and natural, it is not meant to be a serious alternative to modern medical science. In modern society as we know of, there are indeed couples who do have problems producing either boys or girls, and the problem can be attributed to both the Father and Mother, and not solely to the Mother in the case of the traditional Chinese Pregnancy Gender Selection Chart. These can be affected by many modern factors not found in Ancient China, including radio waves activities exposed to from modern equipments.

The Chinese conception calendar also know as the Chinese conception chart (and known as many other things as well) was once used for predicting the gender of an unborn baby.

As in many cultures many years ago, the males of the family had it good! If they were the son of a rich family they may have gone to school, otherwise they could work in the fields. Only the males could inherit the family business and preoperties, and pass on the family name. The female gender however were not really quite so lucky. They couldn’t inherit businesses or property, and then would have a marriage arranged for them before they went off to bare their own children.

Needless to say, male babies were the more sought after gender.

The Chinese conception calendar was said to have been found inside an ancient burial tomb of some Chinese nobles over 700 years ago.

With the mothers age down the side and the month of conception along the top, it is said that were the two lines meet and cross is where you will; find the gender of the unborn (or yet to be conceived) child!

If chancing your luck with an old chart gives you the shivers, maybe you should try combining it with something a little more scientific although totally natural.

Natural gender selection is a plan of changing little aspects within your life that naturally make your body ready for conception and pregnany. Along with this preparation you also learn timing and positions that can make all the difference to the gender of the baby that you could conceive.

Did you know that it’s the sperm that hold the key to your baby’s gender and not the egg? Did you know that these X and Y type sperm both have totally different characteristics that once identified can help you to select either a boy or a girl?

<b>So Chinese gender chart or natural gender selection, which one’s for you?</b>

Why not combine the two? If you have all boys and would love a girl to plan shopping trips with in the future, or all girls and really need to give your hubby a happy smiley face by telling him you’re expecting a boy. Then using both methods could help give you the chance of completing your family with the gender of your choice!
